Woman held in Chandpur on charge of ‘killing daughter’

Police on Friday arrested a woman after the body of her newborn daughter was recovered from a bush at village Thakurkandi of Matlab Uttar upazila on Wednesday.

According to local people, Shirina Akhter, wife of Kamal Uddin gave birth to the baby girl at her house on Wednesday.

Shirina’s mother-in-law informed local public representatives that Shirina killed the newborn girl and threw its body in a nearby jungle.

Masir Uddin Mridha, officer-in-charge of Matlab Uttar Police Station said, police recovered the body of the child and sent it to Chandpur Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
